Launch of BioCarbon's dMRV Working Group with Planet2050: into the Future of Carbon Integrity!

We had previously announced the launch of the dMRV Working Group with BioCarbon, with Planet2050 as organizer and facilitator.
Things are moving, the first Workshop appened yesterday!
DMR-what?
Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) refers to using digital tools such as online forms, platforms, but also modern technology, such as satellite remote sensing, AI/Machine Learning, and blockchain to streamline and enhance the process of tracking carbon projects.

Instead of relying on slow, costly, and often manual field audits, dMRV along the carbon certification lifecycle enables:
Faster screening: integrating AI-supported models and satellite imagery into area screening or methodology eligibility for nature-based projects
Automation: continuous, near-real-time monitoring of project activities (e.g., forest growth, biochar production and application, fuel-switch devices) through sensors and geospatial data
Precision: using AI and high-resolution data to accurately measure carbon stock changes, biodiversity and impact metrics, delivering higher confidence in the environmental claims
Transparency along credit distribution: digital ledgers for immutable, publicly accessible records of carbon credit issuance and retirement, reducing the risk of double counting or fraud.

By providing higher integrity and transparency, dMRV dramatically reduces uncertainty and builds trust in the market, ultimately paving the way for more significant investment and participation in high-quality carbon removal projects.
Our Shared Mission with BioCarbon Standard
The core focus is to co-create the roadmap for advanced dMRV use in BioCarbon’s methodologies, standard and registry, but also to provide useful examples and practical application guides for project developers and the whole ecosystem.
We extend a warm welcome to all the experts who are dedicating their time and knowledge to this crucial effort, representing carbon project developers, dMRV solution providers, geospatial experts, indigenous leaders, verification bodies, financiers.
The Working Group will extend its work until January 2026 at least.
A wider market survey will be launched in the next few weeks to compile inputs from within the entire carbon value chain.
Finally, a solutions library and knowledge repository will also be released in order to disseminate tools, insights and best practices for the advancement of the dMRV ecosystem and carbon markets.
Digital Innovation is needed to create the new global standard for climate capital: real, data-driven proof of impact enabling verified, faster and more efficient participation.
